Hair Loss Problems Bottled With Your Shampoo - 5 Harmful Hair Care Products

Have you ever seen a coconut or lemon stay fresh for months when sitting on the shelf? If not, then how come shampoos that claim to contain these natural ingredients have year-long shelf lives? The answer is simple. Most of the hair care products, including shampoos, contain preservatives. These preservatives are not herbal or natural ingredients but harsh and harmful chemicals that can eventually lead to hair loss problems.

We understand that hair restoration and hair treatment tips are among the most popular hair topics. Yet, if you are so concerned about your hair’s health, you must first spot out the elements that cause harm in the first place. Surprisingly enough, these harmful agents may reside just inside the bottle of your favorite shampoo or hair care product.

While there is a long list, we have selected five of the most commonly occurring and dangerous chemical ingredients that can cause hair loss problems and other adverse effects.

Speaking of shelf life, Parabens are basically the preservatives used in shampoos and hair care products. If your shampoo’s label reads ethyl, propyl, butyl, or ethyl, it means it contains Parabens. Parabens can cause damage that is way beyond hair loss problems. They are estrogenic compounds capable of disrupting hormonal balance and function. They are absorbed into the skin and their prolonged usage may cause severe allergies and reactions.

Propylene Glycol PG

It is one of the favorite ingredients of shampoo and skin care product manufacturers. That is because it gives a smooth texture and feeling immediately after application. What most people don’t know is that due to its ability to penetrate into the skin, workers in the industry are required to wear proper gloves and gear while handling PG. Prolonged exposure may cause damage to internal organs, including the brain, kidneys and liver.

DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine)

It is hard to find a shampoo that does not contain any of these compounds. This is because they are foaming agents. However, they are highly acidic compounds that ultimately form cancer causing nitrates. It has now been proven that repeated application of DEA containing products increases the chances of cancer in the liver and kidneys.

Synthetic Dyes

Next time, don’t get lured in for a bright, neon-colored shampoo. Well, almost all shampoos and hair colors contain synthetic dyes. While manufacturers claim that they are harmless, too much absorption can badly affect the oxygen supply in our blood stream. One of the major ingredients of these so called harmless dyes is coal tar. Animal tests have repeatedly proven these dyes to be cacogenic. They may also lead to hair loss problems.

Mineral Oil

Minerals are good for our body but that does not mean everything that contains the word ‘mineral’ would be as beneficial. Mineral oil is actually a cheap form of petroleum oil. While many hair treatment tips involve washing hair with petroleum oil, the long term damage is simply beyond imagination. Mineral oil can enlarge and clog hair follicles. This may eventually lead to irreversible hair loss problems.
